Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance announced they are investing a combined $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure company established by global investment firm KKR, according to a Samsung Global Newsroom release. Samsung Electronics is contributing $500 million of the total, with the other five affiliates covering the remainder.
Launched in June 2026, Helix is designed to deliver integrated infrastructure across the AI value chain, including hyperscale data center development and operations, power generation covering both baseload and flexible energy sources, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and fiber-optic networks. The company is led by Adam Selipsky, former CEO of Amazon Web Services, and is building out a management team of data center and power industry veterans alongside roughly 170 dedicated professionals from KKR's infrastructure business.
Samsung joins KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and US power company Vistra as investors in Helix. The release frames the deal around each Samsung affiliate's role in the AI infrastructure stack: Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division supplies semiconductors, its Device eXperience division provides data center cooling products including coolant distribution units through FläktGroup, Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group acts as an EPC contractor on data center and power projects, Samsung SDS designs, builds and operates data centers and offers GPU-as-a-Service, and Samsung SDI supplies uninterruptible power supplies and battery backup units.
The release states that Helix plans to secure energy capacity through direct investments and strategic partnerships with major energy developers, including founding investor Vistra, calling power availability "the greatest bottleneck in AI infrastructure."
Samsung said the investment is meant to help its affiliates move "from a traditional hardware component supplier to an active architect of the global AI infrastructure ecosystem."
