Australian neocloud Firmus has announced construction milestones at two of its data center projects in the Asia-Pacific region, marking progress in Tasmania and Indonesia as the company prepares to ship its HyperCube compute systems to both sites.
In a LinkedIn post reported by Data Center Dynamics, Firmus said it has topped out one of the data halls at its project in Launceston, Tasmania, described as "the first of two 42MW halls," and that primary cooling pipework has been installed. Launceston is one of three campuses Firmus is developing in Tasmania under its Project Southgate initiative, alongside a 288MW campus in the Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone and a 52MW facility at the former paper mill site in Wesley Vale. CDC Data Centres was previously part of Project Southgate but has since stepped back from the partnership.
In Indonesia, Firmus said the first data hall at its Batam site has been handed over by its data center and construction partner, allowing its teams to begin installing HyperCube systems ahead of compute delivery and installation. Firmus is developing the Batam facility with DayOne, and the site is expected to house 170,000 GPUs, with Meta leasing capacity there.
Firmus described the parallel progress as "manufacturing, construction, and deployment teams working in parallel, across factories, oceans, and sites," thanking its "build partners and project teams for the work behind each milestone." Both Firmus and DayOne are currently pursuing initial public offerings.
