ABB Launches Infinitus DC Power Portfolio for AI Data Centers

GlobeNewswire (ABB)Sep 21, 2026

ABB Electrification has launched Infinitus, a new portfolio of direct-current (DC) products aimed at powering AI data centers as chip power draw keeps climbing. The company says next-generation AI chips are on track to require 1 MW per rack and beyond, up from roughly 200 kW today, a jump that strains conventional AC-based power infrastructure.

What's in the portfolio

Infinitus is built around an 800 VDC distribution architecture and is organized into five building blocks: Medium Voltage Powertrains, DC Sources and Power Quality, DC Power Distribution, DC Power Protection, and Cooling Optimization. ABB describes it as the first portfolio offering the components needed for any data center architecture, whether fully DC-native or a hybrid of AC and DC.

Efficiency and capacity gains

ABB says the DC approach delivers more than 5% better energy efficiency than AC systems. For a 500 MW data center, the company estimates that efficiency gain could free up 25 MW of additional usable power, worth more than $300 million a year in extra revenue for that facility, with energy savings equivalent to powering Washington, D.C. for nearly a week annually.

Market context

ABB expects global data center power demand to more than double by 2030, with DC architectures capturing 25-40% of new capacity built that year. The company has been collaborating with NVIDIA on DC power designs since a partnership announced in October 2025, and expects full Infinitus deployments to reach the market within two to three years.

"Infinitus is the first portfolio providing the building blocks for any data center architecture—either DC native or hybrid AC/DC—to power next-generation AI chips efficiently," ABB Electrification President Giampiero Frisio said in the announcement.
